John Illsley - UK tour postponed

John has been forced to postpone his forthcoming Streets Of Heaven UK tour due to continuing problems with his right hand which have left him unable to play for sustained periods of time.

Following a series of injections to get him through his May dates, John had an operation to relieve Carpal Tunnel syndrome in his right hand at the end of May.

Although the operation was a success, his hand is still too swollen and bruised to play for any length of time. So, reluctantly and under medical advice, it has been decided to postpone the tour now to give enough notice for fans to cancel any arrangements they may have made.

John apologises to anyone who has been disappointed or inconvenienced and will reschedule the dates as soon as he is able.

Final Get Lucky tour dates

The final dates for the Get Lucky tour are July 19th and 20th at the Salle des Etoiles in Monte Carlo.

Please note that the price of tickets for each of these two shows includes dinner and there will be a shirt and tie dress code in operation. Also, instead of issuing traditional tickets, MarkKnopfler.com will mail all customers a reservation confirmation. There is, however, still a limit of four (4) tickets per order.

Blue Plaque

Mark and John Illsley will be attending a short ceremony in Deptford on Thursday 3rd December to unveil a blue plaque on the site of the first Dire Straits performance. The award, presented by the PRS for music, is part of a national campaign to highlight areas where significant musical events have taken place. The plaque will be fixed to Farrer House in Church Street, Deptford, and unveiled at 11.30am.

Get Lucky second single

The second single from Get Lucky will be Remembrance Day/Piper To the End. It will be released as a digital single on the 9th of November and proceeds from the single will go to the Royal British Legion Poppy Day Appeal. This is a U.K. charity providing support to the serving and ex-service community and their dependents. Proceeds from the US release will go to a similar charity in the USA.

Mark will be performing Remembrance Day in Trafalgar Square, London, shortly before 11 am on the 11th of November.

Reissue of John Illsley albums

In the 1980s John Illsley released two solo albums, Glass and Never Told A Soul. Consisting of all original Illsley compositions, the albums featured some eminent guest performers. Mark played guitar on much of both records, as did Jerry Donahue. Both Guy Fletcher and Alan Clark lent their hands to the keyboard parts and Chris White guested on sax.

The two CDs are being re-issued on with the original artwork on the Creek Records label on September 7th. Comprising 16 tracks between them, the full track listing for both CDs is as follows ...

Chuck Ainlay recently remixed the original tapes which formed the Alchemy album. The film is currently being digitally enhanced and a 5.1 and blue-ray version of the concert will be released next year. The approximate release date would be in April 2010 but this is not confirmed and retail will not be aware of this release as yet. More details will be released as they become available via markknopfler.com and MKNews.

As part of the 2010 Get Lucky Tour, Mark will be performing at Royal Albert Hall in London from the 30th of May until the 4th of June. The remaining dates for the 2010 tour, including other UK venues, will be rolled out starting in September. The tour is likely to commence in the USA in late-April 2010 and end in Europe at the end of July.

Following a two-year collaboration, John Illsley and Greg Pearle are to release their new album on the 13th of September. The album, Beautiful You, features guest artists Guy Fletcher and Paul Brady. A single from the album, Secret Garden, will be released on the 6th of October. John and Greg will be undertaking a short UK tour early in 2009. They will do a showcase performance at London's Bush Hall on the 7th of October. Tickets are available from Ticketweb UK

Put together by Dag Warner, the release aims to draw attention to the plight of the Norwegian wolf, numbers of which have fallen so low that they are now on the endangered species list. Photography and Recording Policy - new update, 15/04/08

There are increasing numbers of fans filming the show. Everybody should be able to enjoy the concert without interference from others. It is beginning to get too distracting for the band and irritating too many people in the audience.

Please note that starting with immediate effect, cameras/equipment used for recording moving pictures (DVD/video/cine, etc), e.g video/DVD/film cameras, will not be permitted in any part of the venue. Single shot cameras and audio are still okay but please be mindful of your fellow fans.

Standard 35mm film or digital cameras, including SLRs with lenses less than 75mm and compact point-and-shoot models, are allowed provided they do not obstruct the view of other fans. Professional cameras or other equipment, including tripods, are not allowed unless the user has the appropriate working media credential. Personal photography or video may not be used to reproduce the concert for commercial purposes.

Please note that this camera policy is subject to change for any event based on the requests of the venue or promoters. Where an individual venue does not permit any type of recording/photographic equipment (including audio, SLRs, digital compacts, etc) then the policy of that venue will be respected. In cases where the venue says they bow to the policy of the artist, it is recommended that you take a printout of this policy with you on the night of the concert.

London Showcase

Friday 5th of October Mark performed an intimate showcase in London before a select audience of around 80 people. Songs were interspersed with short Q & A sessions with BBC Radio presenter Simon Mayo. The showacse was recorded for BBC Radio 2 and will be broadcast on the 19th of November. The songs played were Donegan's Gone/Rudiger/True Love Will Never Fade/The Fizzy and the Still/Let It All Go/Going Home/Postcards From Paraguay/Brothers In Arms/Our Shangri-La/So Far Away.

Ex-Lindisfarne members Ray Laidlaw and Billy Mitchell, and ex-Dire Straits member Alan Clark, will be performing with Who front man Roger Daltrey and Geordie legend Jimmy Nail at a concert in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust at the Sage Gateshead on 22nd September. Ray, Billy and Alan will be part of a band backing Roger and Jimmy which also features bassist Frankie Gibbon, guitarist John Hedley and percussionist Finn McArdle. Seeing in the Dark

Mark and Guy have collaborated to produce the music for a major TV documentary called "Seeing In The Dark" to be aired by PBS in N America on Wednesday the 19th September (check local listing for times, etc). The hour-long film is the work of award-winning journalist and film-maker Timothy Ferris. Based upon Ferris' best-selling book, it charts the rise and success of amateur astronomers. The film will be available on DVD (HD) from the 20th September at www.pbs.org (06/09/07)

The hour long show will premiere songs from the new album, Kill To Get Crimson, as well as featuring material from throughout Mark's career. Tickets for Mark's shows in Holland in 2008 go on sale on general sale on September 8th, and fans who buy tickets within the first two weeks will be given a special code enabling them to pre-order the new album through www.markknopfler.nl. True Love Will Never Fade is to be the first single released from the forth-coming Kill To Get Crimson album. To be released as a digital download on the 24th of September in the UK and much of the rest of Europe, the single will also be available as a 7" vinyl in the UK (although this is subject to change). In the USA and Canada there will be a different single release, Punish The Monkey. The release date for the USA/Canada single is yet to be announced.
